Kia ora koutou ki te whānau o Wakatū,
Now we are at Level 1 we can enjoy each other’s company again in a way that we have not been able to over the last couple of months. I am very pleased now we are at Alert Level 1, we can welcome you back to Wakatū House.
However we ask that if you are coming in to meet with us, please phone 03 546 8648 or email info@wakatu.org to make an appointment.
We will be continuing with the extra hygiene protocols that we have put in place for our buildings.
We also ask that if you are feeling unwell, that you please stay at home and make contact with us by phone or email.
PROJECT KŌRERO
As part of our response to COVID-19 in March we launched Project Kōrero, where our team made personal phone or email contact with Wakatū Owners – starting first with whānau in Te Tauihu and then moving to contacting our owners across the country.
With over 4,000 registered shareholders this has been a big exercise, and while we connected with hundreds of our whānau, we have not yet made contact with everyone.
We will continue to reach out over the coming months in various ways, including by email. As we have previously indicated, one barrier to making contact is not having up to date contact details for all our shareholder and Wakatū whānau whānui, and we need your help.
If you are receiving this email or reading this on Facebook, we are reaching you! So now we are asking your help to ensure that everyone who should be getting updates from Wakatū is getting them. So please forward this on to your whānau, and encourage them to stay connected with Wakatū by signing up to receive our ē-pānui by filling out this form.
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR APPLICATIONS
Applications for a position as an Associate Director are open now.
Part of our Te Amonuku programme, the Associate Directorship provides our Owners with the opportunity to gain experience in governance at Wakatū.
As Wakatū grows and our organisation becomes more complex, it is vital that future directors are equipped with the commercial and cultural skills and experience required to govern and manage our taonga.
We are looking for Associate Directors with business acumen and at least ten years sound commercial or professional experience in the areas that are relevant to Wakatū (for example, Whenua, Auora, Kono and Manaaki).
As part of our commitment to ensure diversity and gender equality at all levels of our organisation, including management and governance roles, we strongly encourage women to apply.
Applicants must be Owners (shareholders, descendants of shareholders, or a member of a whānau trust holding Wakatū shares).
For more information and to apply online visit https://www.wakatu.org/education-1#te-amonuku-our-associate-programme
Applications close on 30 June 2020.
KONO AHUMAHI SCHOLARSHIPS
Education and training have always been important for our whānau, and we encourage you and your whānau to seek out opportunities to study and learn.
One opportunity is the Kono Ahumahi scholarship, a partnership between Wakatū Incorporation and Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT).
The scholarship is aimed at those studying or thinking of studying at NMIT for a career in the aquaculture, horticulture, viticulture and food sectors, or supporting industries such as engineering, automotive engineering, and logistics.
The scholarship covers two-thirds of the recipient’s annual NMIT fees, for up to a maximum of three years. The successful applicant will also be supported through mentoring.
To be eligible, a student must be of Māori descent and planning full-time study at NMIT.
Priority will be given to applicants with a whakapapa connection to Wakatū Incorporation.
For further information and application forms, contact Hoani Tākao.
Look out for our tertiary education scholarship applications which will open at the beginning of August.

One way of helping our local economy respond to the impacts of COVID-19 is to support local business when we can.
Wakatū has a number of local businesses across the Nelson and Tasman area who are either tenants in one of our properties or have businesses on land owned by Wakatū. We’re giving you a list of these businesses so that you if you chose to, you can support them
