Our tikanga - our protocols for sharing and accessing sensitive information about Wakatū
The Wakatū board is committed to providing Wakatū Owners and whānau with the information they need to participate in the affairs of the Incorporation.
Under relevant legislation and policy, such as Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993, Wakatū has obligations to provide certain information to its Owners. This includes information about our share register, as well as financial and other organisational information. Some of this information is sensitive and is not intended for the public domain.
Historically, we have provided this information for inspection at our offices at Wakatū House, Nelson. That requires Owners and whānau to visit us in person, which can make it difficult for Owners and whānau to access information, particularly if they are based in other parts of Aotearoa or the world. The majority of our Owners and whānau are based outside of Nelson.
To assist with this, we have established a restricted online site via our website for the Owners and whānau of Wakatū, which contains information and documents that are not available to the public. This information is intended to be shared with Wakatū Owners and whānau. It is not intended to be used or distributed by members of the public or third parties with no connection to Wakatū. This information can be accessed by our Owners and whānau, provided they are authorised to enter the site and they have agreed to our tikanga or protocols for using the site.
We have established tikanga or protocols for the use of and access to this information. You are required to agree to this tikanga before accessing the site. By doing so, you will ensure that this information is used and shared appropriately and for the purposes for which it is intended.

Owners and Whānau accessing the site agree to follow all reasonable requests from Wakatū, including removing any content from a public site or destroying any copies containing the information.
Owners and Whānau who do not follow our tikanga or protcols agree that this may result in their access to the site being removed or limited.
